Katherine Ryan on television and podcasts

Canadian-born Ryan moved to the UK in 2008 and became a familiar face on comedy programmes including 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Live at the Apollo. She created, wrote and starred in the Netflix sitcom The Duchess, alongside stand-up specials In Trouble and Glitter Room. Her television work also includes the family reality series At Home with Katherine Ryan. Podcast listeners know her through Telling Everybody Everything, giving her an audience beyond her stage and television appearances.

A conversation about Firstborn Daughter

The Brighton appearance is billed as a discussion of Ryan’s new book. It brings her together with Chanté Joseph to explore the family roles and expectations at the centre of Firstborn Daughter.

The book follows The Audacity, published in 2021. Its subjects include motherhood, marriage and the responsibility of being the person who organises everyone else’s life. Ryan uses the idea of the firstborn daughter as a way into those experiences, mixing personal reflection with social commentary.

The publisher’s book listing gives a release date of 22 October 2026, putting the Brighton event the following evening. The discussion therefore arrives at the start of the book’s publication, rather than at the end of a long run of readings.

Part of an autumn book tour

Ryan’s official links page groups Brighton with events in Bristol, Cheltenham, Manchester, Birmingham and London under her 2026 book tour. The Cheltenham appearance is a separate festival conversation with Stephen Bailey; Brighton’s advertised interviewer is Chanté Joseph.

Ryan also has a stand-up special using the First Born Daughter name. When booking, look for the full Brighton event title and its conversation format. The Corn Exchange listing promises an evening about the book, and the book is included in the ticket price.

Upcoming tour dates

These are the six book-tour appearances linked from Ryan’s official page, checked on 8 October 2026. Cheltenham Festivals confirms its event on 18 October at 4.45pm. Formats, interviewers and ticket inclusions vary between venues.
