From a London residency to Brighton

The show reaches Sussex after an extended run at Arches in London. Promoter Show And Tell describes that residency as sold out and lists Brighton among a small group of October tour dates.

The story begins with an apparent moment of contentment at a friend’s beach house near Los Angeles. Amstell is in love and feels released from the pressure to perform. An invitation from someone connected with his teenage desire unsettles that calm, setting up an account of a night in which attempts to let go become the material for a show.

That personal starting point gives I Love It Here its shape. The advertised premise puts desire, self-consciousness and the effort to find peace at the centre of the evening, rather than promising a topical round-up.

Amstell’s work on stage and screen

Many viewers will know Amstell from presenting Channel 4’s Popworld and BBC Two’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks. His career also spans writing and directing: he made the films Benjamin and Carnage, while his Netflix special Set Free introduced his stand-up to a wider audience. His live material turns towards his own relationships, ego and self-doubt, subjects that also run through his writing and films. The Brighton date offers a chance to see that personal approach in a full solo show.

The October schedule places the Brighton date between Nottingham and Salford. For Sussex readers, the Concert Hall appearance is the local stop on that announced run; the promoter’s current list does not show a second Sussex performance.
